Sis, We All Have One
Revelation 14:14
Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud was one like a son of man, with a golden crown on His head and a sharp sickle in his hand.
When I read this, I got excited all over again. A sickle is a farming tool with a C-shaped blade mounted on a small handle. It is meant to be used with one hand, typically to harvest bundles of plants, like grasses or grains, by cutting them at their base. Think of the sickle as your purpose. It represents the harvest work that needs to be done.
We are equating the sickle in his hand to the sickle in yours. Matthew Henry mentioned that biblically, the sickle represented one of two things. “The cutting down of the wicked when ripe for ruin, by the judgements of God, and the gathering in of the righteous when ripe for heaven, by the mercy of God.” Although, we are not “wielding” the sickle in this particular instance, we still have a duty to help prepare the harvest. There is harvest work to be done, meaning we are going out into our fields, sowing our gifts and talents for the advancement of God’s kingdom as part of the great commission, and preparing ourselves, and others, for the day when the judgement of God and mercy of God come together for harvest time.
Metaphorically, your purpose has been placed in your hand to prepare the bundles of people in your field for the great harvest. Sis don't let this year close out without knowing what your purpose is. It is time for you to figure out what your gifts and talents are and how to use them to advance the kingdom of God so that the harvest can be reaped. No more head in the sand with an “I don’t know” mentality. Mount up and take your place as a daughter of the King of Kings and a recipient of the comforter of all comforters. Your purpose is sharp and it was given to you for the function of preparing the harvest for reaping.
