Follow & Prosper

Deuteronomy 30:8-9 You will again obey the Lord and follow all his commands I am giving you today. Then the lord your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb. The young of your livestock and the crops of your land. The Lord will again delight in you and make you prosperous just as he delighted in your ancestors.

Prosperity comes after obedience and a continuous following of Christ. After all, how can you follow Him without being obedient? Obedience and following God is not a one act show. They are ongoing but note how God calls us to first remember our transgressions and repent. Although God is speaking to the children of Israel, I believe he is still asking this of us, and the promises attached are weighty and good. Prosperity of mind, body, and soul are by products of obedience to Christ and following God. But first, you must remember your sins against God, repent of those transgressions, and praise God for his joy and freedom that follows. In the King James translation, we see the phrase “And the Lord thy God will make thee plenteous…” Plenteous is a word that described what remained. It was a deliberate “leaving over”, or the intentional leaving behind of His provision for His believers. We are to give God what is due to Him. All the work we put into this world is to bring Him glory. We have learned that we are to give to those who are in need as well, through the sowing and harvesting of the land God has set aside for us. Now, we see that when we remain obedient to God, he does more than just provide for our immediate needs, but He intentionally leaves behind a remainder for us to continue to feed from and bless others with. So, God has given us talents and gifts to use to build his kingdom. Am I saying if you work within your gifting and use your talents, you're going to be prosperous? Why yes, I am, and you need to remain in true obedience- heart, mind, and body- in order to see His true provision come through. You will find yourself prospering with purpose ideas, dreams, and plans. You will be prosperous in all areas of your life but it's going to take obedience and a continual following of the Holy Spirit. Read His word and pray always. God has deposits to make in us and he needs our attention. He needs our time. We only need to obey and follow.
